Two days ago, the television channel Cuatro spoke about the current problem of "Shamanic" rituals in Spain and invited 2 "Experts" to discuss about the topic.
In the last few months, there has been an increase in police operations against groups offering ayahuasca or bufo alvareus in whole Spain. It should be noted that most of these people have no training in these substances and acting in an illegal manner.
The story becomes ridiculous when an ex-priest is advertised on TV as a cult expert and talks about the dangers of naturally occurring substances without any background.
An experienced lawyer on psychedelic substances explains that psylocibine and ayahuasca have no toxicity, but the presenter cuts off the lawyer's explanation and gives the viewers the warning that they are dangerous substances, as do the other commentators on the show.
Franzisco Azorin:
"The show does a mega-sensational treatment of the subject, going so far as to talk about satanic cults and calling a cult expert to discuss the issue. Mr Luís Santamaría, a former priest, shows a lack of education and professionalism by shaking his head and laughing when he hears from my mouth that these substances are not dangerous because they are not poisonous or addictive. The moderator acts as judge and party and interrupts me when he doesn't like what he hears and keeps the testimony of the expert in cults who, by the way, is not a toxicologist but a priest. Next time, two rounds of two minutes each have to be negotiated in writing".
The conclusion of the story is that if you don't have a background, you can inform yourself first and then have a discussion with a certain level. But see for yourself the excerpt on Youtube.
On 26.11.2022, lawyer Franzisco Azorin spoke at our conference about the legality of psychedelic substances in Europe and internationally.
